Judge Helps Out State Farm - Public Outcry!

It comes with no surprise that State Farm was hit with a $1.05 billion dollar judgment. It comes with less surprise that they donate millions to certain politicians (er, Rick Scott fundraising parties in FL, anyone?).  But it does come with surprise & disappointment the involvement of the Judge in this billion dollar case.  Here is the link:  Chicago Tribune Story on Judge & State Farm.

Hurricane Irene a possible CATEGORY 4!

It looks like Hurricane Irene has spared Florida this time. However, North Carolina is directly in the projected path of Hurricane Irene and projected to be a Category 4 storm!

11 a.m. Advisory from the National Hurricane Center - IRENE continues east

The latest advisory has Hurricane Irene moving north east. It appears Florida may have avoided this storm! However, from past experience, we know that storms can change paths quickly. Stay tuned...

IRENE BECOMES A HURRICANE!

Tropical Storm Irene is now HURRICANE Irene. She has veered to the east and may miss making landfall in Florida. Now is a good time to make sure you are prepared for a Hurricane. Go buy your supplies. You should also contact your insurance agent IMMEDIATELY to make sure you the proper coverage for your home. Lastly, even if Hurricane Irene does not make landfall, Floridians will probably still feel winds and heavy rains. Therefore, bring in any loose items in your yard.

New Tropical Storm headed for FLORIDA

South Florida will probably be feeling Tropical Storm Irene by the end of this week.  We all know storms can drastically change their positions over the course of hours or days, so stay tuned!  For a look at T.S. Opportunities for smaller law firms

I follow a number of blogs and today I received an e-mail regarding one of those blogs.  I find Tom Kane's Legal Marketing Blog interesting.  In his post today, he discusses an ABA Journal Online article that says the economic times are creating more opportunities for smaller law firms.  This is very exciting for us smaller firms!

Car Accident -- Part 1

On October 10, 2010, at 12:20 a.m., my vehicle was struck by a drunk driver.  A very drunk driver. In fact, she was over .15 on the Breathalyzer.  I am grateful that my passenger and I were able to walk away from the accident with some minor injuries (our backs and necks are in lots of pain, but no broken bones).  It is also a good thing that I have a safe vehicle.  While I am still waiting to hear what the estimate of damages will be from GEICO, I do know that my car looked 10 times better than the drunk driver's car.  I'd venture to say her car is a total loss.

 This is very interesting, since I am used to assisting my client's through their process.  I now have the "opportunity" (I am trying to be positive here) to experience first hand what my clients experience after they have sustained property damage.  I'll also post some pictures of the property damage in the coming days.  Stay tuned!
